About the Programme

What is the Ethical Supplier Programme?

We’ve created an effective yet simple programme that allows retailers to keep a track of their suppliers business practices, or for suppliers to independently use their initiative in portraying themselves as running an ethical business. The programme somewhat resembles an ethical verification tool.

Our Ethical Supplier Programme awards participating suppliers with a recognition of either Ethical Supplier Level 1, 2 or 3 (with 3 being the top achievement) depending on the assessments they complete and the results of the assessments. Activities at all levels of the Ethical Supplier programme will provide an insight into the business practices, and working conditions of the participating suppliers. The higher the Level, the more in-depth and reliable the data, making it more beneficial to both retailers and suppliers to encourage full participation of the programme.

Who is the Programme for?

RETAILERS

Retailers can promote the programme to their supply base and use it as a tool to monitor the individual practices of their suppliers. Retailers can either promote the programme as an optional or required task and will be able to keep track of and review results of the participating suppliers.

SUPPLIERS

It's becoming increasingly important for suppliers to show initiative in their efforts to meet ethical and responsible business standards. Retailers are looking to work with suppliers who are reliable and trustworthy, and undertaking an independent initiative like our Ethical Supplier Programme can achieve this advantage.

 

Ethical Supplier Levels Explained

LEVEL 1

To gain an Ethical Supplier Level 1 recognition, suppliers must carry out an employer focused assessment, capturing data in the perspective of the employer. Essentially, management of the supplier organisation will answer questions on their workplace in areas such as health and safety and labour standards, to ensure the conditions, practice and process within the organisation are adequate. 

LEVEL 2

For suppliers to attain the recognition Ethical Supplier Level 2, an employee online assessment must be undertaken. This assessment will reflect the questions of the Level 1 assessment, but will be captured from the perspective of the employees.

The employee assessment allows all workers to confidentially and anonymously share their views about their employer and the environment in which they work. Our multi-lingual assessment platform is clear and easy-to-use, making it extremely effective in gaining a high rate of honest employee responses.

LEVEL 3

For suppliers to reach the highest level, Ethical Supplier Level 3, Level 1 and Level 2 activities must both be completed. This requires the supplier to complete both the employer assessment as well as the employee assessment. By undertaking both assessments, an in-depth comparative view of the organisation’s ethical practice and process is gained, highlighting any areas of disconnect or risks as well as areas of excellence.


RECOGNITION STAMP & CERTIFICATION

Participating suppliers are awarded with a recognition stamp in which they can use to promote themselves as taking part in responsible and ethical activities. The stamp will clearly display whether they are an Ethical Supplier Level 1, 2 or 3.

Suppliers will also be awarded with a Responsible Trade Worldwide certificate, which will explain in more detail what activities have been undertaken to achieve the Ethical Supplier award.
